This pewter medallion was cast to commemorate early Australian, Chinese, and later soldier settler miners who worked tin claims around Thirteen Mile Creek in the Amiens district.

Tin ore (cassiterite) is the heavy black sand found in alluvial deposits. It could be mined with a simple panning dish or on a larger scale with a sluice or dredge.

The medallion design is by the local artist Franco Arcidiacono and depicts a tin miner on the front and an Amiens Legacy Centre design on the obverse. It was produced by Buckingham Pewter in Western Australia and contains a small amount of tin from Thirteen Mile Creek that was panned by Alec Harslett and smelted by Roger Willis.
